Arrested at the Airport? Trap Music Star Arrested at Gate after US CBP Alerts Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office of Active Warrant

Can a person be arrested at the Miami International Airport, just before they are due to board their flight at their gate? The ordeal that trap music star Trippie Redd went through at the international hub shows that the answer is yes, and it is a stark warning for individuals in Miami who may have active warrants out for their arrest. According to local news reports, trap music sensation Trippie Redd, originally from Ohio, was just about to board his flight from Miami to Europe when he was arrested on outstanding charges. Reports indicate that the 26-year-old musician, who now lives in Southwest Ranches, had a pending 2023 arrest warrant out on his record that was related to an “invalid driver’s license case.” Redd, who was born Michael L. White, was arrested at around 4:50 p.m. at Miami International Airport Gate 17 after U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents alerted local police to the active Miami-Dade County bench warrant on his record. Redd was reported to have been on his way to France, and then to a music festival in Belgium, where he was listed to be playing on the lineup that Saturday. Redd, instead, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and he was released on a $150 bond. It remains to be seen whether Redd will be convicted of any of the charges against him, and what the outcome of the case will be.
Getting Arrested at the Airport – Your Rights to an Attorney
It may come as a surprise to some individuals in Miami that a person can be arrested just before they are about to board a plane, at their airport gate. The truth of the matter is that although the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and airport security typically do not routinely check passengers for outstanding warrants, if you have an active warrant that is discovered by airport security, you may be detained and arrested. It is, accordingly, important for individuals in Miami to know that they have rights if they are arrested at the airport. One of those rights is that you have the right to be represented by an attorney, and you should exercise this right for the best chance of protecting yourself and your rights.
