“Chop Shop” Bust in Miami Sees Two Arrested – Hit with Grand Theft, Operating a Chop Shop Charges

A City of Miami employee and his son were arrested this week, and the Miami community in which they lived and work was shocked to learn about the alleged “chop shop” operation that the father-son duo were running. According to local news reports, a 55-year-old mechanic for the City of Miami and his 26-year-old son were arrested on Wednesday, June 4, for “allegedly running a chop shop after nearly $500,000 worth of stolen cars were found on their properties….”Investigators looking into the inner-workings of the alleged chop-shop operation believe that vehicles that had the parts of other vehicles in them were found on the father-son pair’s property, and there were other “inconsistencies” found in other vehicles on the property. A closer inspection into the vehicles on the property revealed “major component parts” in the vehicles on the property that belonged to stolen vehicles. For example, investigators allege that a Jeep on the property was found with parts from another Jeep Trackhawk that was reported stolen from the Hard Rock Casino in 2024. That Jeep Trackhawk is valued at $80,000, investigators say. The father and son were ultimately arrested, and they were charged with a number of charges including grand theft of a vehicle, organized scheme to defraud, operating a chop shop, procuring the title of a stolen vehicle, dealing in stolen property, and odometer altering or tampering. It now remains to be seen what will happen in the criminal case against the duo, and whether they will be convicted of any of the charges they face.
