Miami Father and U.S. Customs Border Patrol Agent Faces Battery Charges, Other Criminal Charges after Learning about Daughter’s Car Crash

A Miami father and U.S. Customs Border Patrol Agent is in hot water after an alleged altercation with his daughter and her boyfriend over a car accident. According to local news reports, Miami resident Nelson Perez was allegedly furious that his daughter was involved in a car crash, and the fact that he believed that she needs to “obey her parents.”

The altercation between father, daughter, and daughter’s boyfriend occurred on Monday, February 24. Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported that Perez had “confronted his daughter shortly after learning she had been in a crash,” and that the argument escalated when “Perez struck her twice on the left temple and pulled her hair.” Perez’s boyfriend allegedly attempted to intervene between the father and daughter, but Perez is reported by officers to have thrown him to the ground and straddled him, “before squeezing his neck, cutting off his air supply.” According to reports, members of Perez’s family tried to stop the fight, by attempting to pull Perez off of his daughter’s boyfriend, but was said to only have stopped when his daughter threatened to call the police. After the alleged fight, Perez’s daughter was reported to not have any visible injuries, and her boyfriend “suffered scratches on the right side of his neck, a scratch above his right eyebrow, a small laceration inside his right lip, and an abrasion on his back left shoulder,” according to police reports. Perez was ultimately taken into police custody and he was charged with one count of strangulation and two counts of battery under Florida criminal laws. He is currently being held on a $3,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center.
