Miami Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Friend in Alcohol-Involved Fight – Learn About What You Can Do if You are Facing Criminal Charges in Miami

Arrested2

There is no question that alcohol can make a person do a lot of things, and some of those things may be things that they will regret for the rest of their life. From drinking while driving and causing a serious or fatal car accident, to causing outbursts in bars that end in disruptive and dangerous fights, to destroying property in a drunken tirade, alcohol has a tendency to bring out the worst in people, especially if they have had way too much to drink. Unfortunately, a Miami man faces murder charges after being allegedly involved in an alcohol-involved fight with a friend, and his story raises important questions about what Miami criminal defendants can do if they have been arrested and charged after an alcohol-involved incident.

According to local news reports, on Saturday, April 20, at around 3:30pm in the afternoon, a 40-year-old Miami man and his friend allegedly got into an altercation that ended in violence and one fatality. The incident occurred outside of the Red Rooster, a restaurant located at 920 NW Second Ave in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. Investigators believe that the 40-year-old man and his friend had been drinking alcohol together, and, although the two seemed fine at first, with the victim waiting for his friend outside, the pair allegedly eventually began to argue. The victim was reported to have attempted to punch the 40-year-old man, but he missed. He then walked towards his friend, but his friend pulled out a firearm and shot him. The victim was shot in the abdomen and was taken to the hospital where he sadly died. The victim was reported to be unarmed at the time of the shooting. Authorities indicated that the shooter “appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the shooting.” He is now facing second-degree murder charges for his alleged role in the death of his friend, and he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.

Miami Criminal Defendants Have Rights and Options Under Florida Laws

In light of the tragic incident that left one friend dead and another in police custody, it is important for Miami residents and criminal defendants to understand their rights if they are arrested after a tragic, alcohol-involved incident occurs. In Florida, criminal defendants are innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law, and they have the right and the opportunity to defend themselves. Accordingly, the best thing that a person facing criminal charges in Miami can do is to speak with an experienced Miami criminal attorney about their case, and what their rights, options, and the best next steps to get justice in their case are.
